The “Panhellenic Campaign for Marriage Equality“, coordinated and implemented by Homo Evolution, had as its central purpose the awareness-raising and sensitization around the demand for equality in the right to marriage in Greece for same-sex couples, through the mitigation and/or removal of stereotypes, stigma and homophobia. The law did not allow for civil marriage between same-sex couples, however it was not possible for same-sex couples to jointly procreate or even recognise family ties. This inequality was highlighted by the campaign to raise awareness of the issue among the wider community.
The campaign was launched on 28/04 and in two months it has gathered ~60K signatures, the support of 18 LGBTQ+ organisations, 40 prominent individuals, and 4 leading cultural institutions.
